"The Tossaround" Episode Trivia

I am delighted to share the news that the makers of "Stuck" have made partner on youtube! On the downside this means that our videos will run an ad or two. But the on the upside this means we get like a 5th of a penny or something for each view! It's not much but we take all those fifs of pennies, tape them together, and invest them back into the biz to pay for tapes, costumes, equipment and the like. Thank you in advance for checking us out on youtube and maybe even clicking on an ad or two!

I'm writing this from Liverpool, England, where I am spending a year back at University. Yes this makes shooting a tad difficult! But I'm there in spirit. And via the intranets. So it's all good.

If you are missing seeing my goofy face on screen, see if they are re-running last years Thanksgiving episode of "Gossip Girl" this week. I was an extra, and you might be able to see me pretending to eat turkey at the prison, when the lady bumps into the guy. Then again, you might not. I don't know, I've never seen it.

Enough updates, for a blast from the past check out an early episode, and one of my favs, "The Tossaround". Did you know....

This was the first episode of the season. The events (?) in Tossaround are mentioned in the next episode, "Ace in the Hole". But actually Ace was shot first, and Tossaround a few days later.

This was my first time working with the onrye guys. My main job was boom operator, which entailed holding a mic mounted on a pole over the actor's heads. Not a great job when you're small have have skinny little arms! So I'm the one responsible if the sound's not great. Sound is always an issue, especially filming outside with trucks and planes going by.

Another interesting challenge is location. We live in NY and drove all over Astoria looking for an alley that could masquerade as somewhat suburban. This also gives a time constraint because you want to shoot quickly enough that you're not annoying neighbors (more on this topic in a later blog...) All of this makes you really appreciate the amount of labor and effort that goes into making a film.

We got 12 beers to do the shot of the lads opening them-- and something or other messed up every take! We ended up using every single one! We couldn't drink all of them of course although we gave it our best effort at the end of the shoot.

The tossaround debuts on filmannex.com!

Well, the Tossaround is anyhow. We should find out soon if the others will be available to view and we'll let you know.

"Leftover" Episode Trivia

Well this is a little bonus... not officially part of the "Stuck" world but something Paul wrote and produced a few years back. Here's some little behind-the-scenes trivia and goofs!

We shot this mostly at our old apartment in Queens, except the shot of Hawkman's legs dangling out the window. That shot we did at my buddy Kim's (Thanks Kim!!) She also helped us out by providing the wooden box for Carter's weed. For the weed, we used some old herbs we found lying around the kitchen. (Sidebar trivia-- I'm really anti-pot. It smells bad and makes you dumb!!! Do we really need any extra help in that department?)

Another friend who helped us out is my buddy Joseph, who drives & drops off Carter (Thanks Joseph!!)

In the first shot of the living room, I'm not wearing any shoes! I must have taken them off between takes. But then in another shot they're on.
Paul's mustache kept falling off and we had to use rubber cement to stick it on which gave him a bad reaction and stung his face quite a bit. Ah, one must suffer to create art.
We made that costume ourselves! I made the mask out of papier-mache. *She's crafty!*

Paul made the "computer" himself, too! Out of, just crap he found. On top of the computer you can see an album by The Sweet. And next to it is a black box, inside of which is a Hawkman figurine. (This same figurine is later seen in "Ace in the Hole")

And we drank all those cheap-ass beers ourselves, too, just to use the cans as set dressing. It's given me a lasting taste for Tecate, no lie.

I created the music played in the car, the "computer" SFX, and the Hawkman "Hero's Theme" played at the end, all on GarageBand. Paul did a great song for the end credits but had to cut it to shave time off.

And one last piece of trivia-- I still have those pants! I wore them yesterday.

Leftover

This is why there will be no Hawkman movie. Investigative reporter Kendra Hall hunts down the reclusive Hawk to interview him for the Association Of Sidelined SuperHeroes and Obsolete Living Evil-doers magazine and finds out what he's been up to since 'leaving' the Superfriends in 1978.
